Training
Student members of CJB are required to participate in training sessions in the spring quarter when CJB members are selected and appointed and during the beginning of the fall quarter. Each training session is 4 to 5 hours. Additional workshops and training opportunities are offered throughout the year at weekly CJB meetings as appropriate and requested by CJB members to enhance skills for participating on hearing panels. Finally, student members are also trained in peer counseling, intake processes, interpersonal communication, cross-cultural communication, diversity, conflict management, and mediation skills development.
Time Requirements
CJB members are required to complete approximately 20 hours of service per month (5 hours per week on average). There are two trainings each year, and members attend a weekly hour-long meeting. CJB members are also required to spend an additional three hours per week working on outreach projects and serving in various capacities in connection with formal hearings or informal disciplinary matters. Although formal hearings occur on an irregular basis (about 7 to 10 per year), CJB members also support SJA in the informal disciplinary process in a variety of ways. CJB members earn transcript notation for their service to this important campus institution.
